Bio

Suzanne Weekes is a professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). Her research work is in numerical methods for differential equations including applications to cancer growth and dynamic materials. She is an active member and former director of the Center for Industrial Mathematics and Statistics at WPI. Dr. Weekes is one of the founding directors of the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute Undergraduate Program (MSRI-UP), a research and mentoring program for mathematics undergraduates that is hosted by MSRI and which targets underrepresented groups in mathematics. She also directs the WPI Research Experiences for Undergraduates Program in Industrial Mathematics and Statistics which is the first NSF-funded REU program that exclusively involves students in real-world projects sponsored by corporate partners. Prof. Weekes is a co-director of the Preparation for Industrial Careers in Mathematical Sciences (PIC Math) program which is supported by the NSF along with the MAA and SIAM and whose aim is to prepare mathematical sciences students for non-academic careers by engaging them in research problems that come directly from industry. Prof. Weekes serves on the SIAM Committee on Education, the Human Resources Advisory Committee of MSRI, and the AMS Committee on the Profession.
