Bio

Steve Kennedy has a BS in mathematics from Boston University and MS and PhD from Northwestern University. His dissertation and early research career was in topological dynamical systems; his doctoral research was done under the supervision of Robert F. Williams. In recent years he has turned his research energies towards projects that could involve his undergraduate students including projects in: topology, geometry, game theory and voting theory. He has taught at Carleton College since 1994 after holding visiting positions at Loyola University (Chicago), University of Delaware, and St. Olaf College.

Steve has a deep interest in mathematical writing and publishing. He co-edited the MAA undergraduate magazine Math Horizons in the years 1999-2003. He is currently the Senior Acquisitions Editor for the MAA books program. Steve was the proud mentor of Carletons third Posse; they graduated in 2007. Steve co-founded and since 1995 has co-directed, with his colleague Deanna Haunsperger, the Carleton Summer Mathematics Program for Women. That program, funded primarily by NSF, is a vertically integrated mentoring network of three hundred female mathematicians ranging in experience from undergraduates to full professors.
