Bio

Sara Maloni focuses her research at the intersection of geometry and low-dimensional topology. More precisely, she studies deformation spaces of geometric structures on low-dimensional manifolds through their geometric, topological and dynamical properties. Sara is an Assistant Professor at the University of Virginia since 2016. Before coming to UVA, she was a Tamarkin Assistant Professor at Brown University and a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Paris-Sud 11 (France) and at the University of Toulouse (France). She spent a semester at the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (MSRI) in Berkeley as a Huneke Endowed Postdoctoral Fellow.SarareceivedherPh.D. in mathematics from the University of Warwick (2013) andherM.S. and B.S. in mathematics from the University of Genova (Italy). Among others, she founded the AWM Student Chapter at UVa in 2016 and has been a member of the AWMStudent Chapter Committee since 2015. She has been also serving as a AWMmentor for high school students and undergraduate students.
