I am a professor in the Department of Mathematics at Purdue University.
I received my Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota in 1982 under the direction of Eugene Fabes. Following this, I was an NSF postdoc at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences in NYU and then a Moore Instructor at MIT. At Purdue, eight graduate students have received Ph.D's under my supervision. I was awarded an AMS Centenniual Research Fellowship in 1994, and I was selected as a Fellow of the AMS in 2013.
My research focuses on the analysis of solutions to systems of nonlinear partial differential equations describing soft-matter materials such as liquid crystal materials and superconductors. There has been a growing interest in analyzing the nature and location of topological defects in these materials by developing new techniques in the theory of pdes, calculus of variations, and applied analysis. My research is supported by NSF.
