Statistical methods applied to genetic data

Jo Hardin earned her BA from Pomona college in 1995 in Mathematics. She received her MS (1997) and PhD (2000) from UC Davis in Statistics. Her research areas include the development of statistical methods applied to analyzing large genetic datasets. She has also done work in modernizing the undergraduate curriculum, particularly with respect to how statistics and data science have much to offer each other. Since 2002 she has worked in the mathematics department at Pomona College, and every year she works with a handful of undergraduates on senior thesis projects. When she isn't teaching or doing research, she can often be found working with students who are underrepresented in higher education both through the Posse program and with Pomona's own Pomona Scholars of Mathematics.
