Bio

I am a Professor of Mathematics and the Graduate Advisor for the Ph.D. and M.S. Programs in Mathematics at the University of Texas at Arlington. My main scientific research covers the fields of mathematical biology and numerical analysis. It is strongly motivated and oriented toward applications. I am primarily interested in the accurate mathematical modeling and theoretical analysis of biological phenomena, in particular the modeling of population dynamics, microbial biofilms, bone formation and growth, and the human immune system. I am also interested in the formulation, analysis and implementation of non-standard numerical methods for solving nonlinear differential equations. I have been the director of the NSF funded UTTER (Undergraduate Training in Theoretical Ecology Research) program and have also been heavily involved with the NSF GK-12 program at UT Arlington. At present, I am the Faculty Advisor for the student chapter of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) at UT Arlington and also one of the faculty members in the NSF S-STEM SURGE program and in the DOE GAANN program at UT Arlington. I enjoy working with undergraduate and graduate students, directing their interdisciplinary research, mentoring them, and facilitating their transition into the next stage of a mathematical career.
