Department of Mathematics has about forty tenue/tenue-earning faculty covering many areas of mathematics. The faculty in the program are dedicated to graduate education and many of them are recognized as outstanding scholars and many of them conduct interdisciplinary research and supervise graduate students in other departments, research institutes, and centers within the university.

Students in the program can specialize in many areas of pure, applied, computational and financial mathematics. Students in the program have opportunities to interact with other departments and institutions on campus, and also with local industry. Our graduates regularly go on to successful positions in academics, government, and industry.

Admission:

All underrepresented or underserved American students with the talent and the ambition are encouraged to apply for the UCF math graduate program and to earn a doctoral degree in a mathematical science. The program admits PhD/master students in the spring and fall and plans to admit about 20 PhD students every year. PhD in regular mathematics track and financial mathematics track; MS in regular track, industrial mathematics track and financial mathematics; the Graduate Certificates in Mathematical Sciences.

Student body profile

The program has 47 active PhD students, 10 active master students, and 7 active graduate certificate students. Of all PhD students, about 34% are female, 30% are US white and 4% are African-American. Updated and more detailed information.

Funding opportunities

PhD program:

All PhD students are offered up to seven years of funding, conditioned on satisfactory academic progress and satisfactory performance of assigned duties.

Funding consists of a stipend/university fellowship, tuition, and health insurance coverage. Most students are funded as teaching assistants, but many are funded as research assistants on the grants of faculty, and some are funded through external fellowships and university fellowships.

MS program:

Funding for students is very limited, with the exception of the master's program with an emphasis on the financial mathematics track, which offers some teaching assistantships.
