The Gulf States Math Alliance (GSMath) is a community of mentors and scholars throughout the states of Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi that seeks to make education in mathematics and mathematically-related subjects available to everyone.
Currently in the U.S. several groups are severely under-represented in the mathematical sciences. GSMath seeks to encourage and provide opportunities for members of under-represented groups who wish to pursue undergraduate or graduate studies in mathematics or a mathematically-related field. Under-represented groups is broadly defined, and may include ethnic minorities, women, or first-generation college students.
GSMath is one of seven regional alliances under the national Math Alliance. GSMath works closely with the national Math Alliance, as well as the other regional alliances, while simultaneously providing and promoting special opportunities to students within the Gulf States Region.
