The Ithaca College Department of Mathematics invites applications for two tenure-eligible Assistant Professors of Mathematics beginning August 16, 2020. The potential for teaching excellence is our most important criterion, with preference for candidates with experience or interest in teaching courses in statistics and/or data science.
Special consideration will be given to individuals with experience or interest in implementing mathematics-teaching practices that promote all students’ opportunity to learn. We particularly encourage members of historically underrepresented groups in mathematics to apply.
The typical teaching load is 18 credit hours per year (most courses are 3 to 4 credit hours) and includes services courses as well as courses for the major. Teaching and developing courses for the college’s Integrative Core Curriculum will be encouraged. Candidates are expected to carry out a productive research agenda. Support is available for research, including for collaboration between faculty and undergraduates. Service in and outside the department is also expected.
The Ithaca College Department of Mathematics is a community of teachers and scholars focused on supporting and mentoring students through innovative teaching, interaction outside of class, collaboration on research, and social events. We are committed to identifying and addressing factors that improve access to high-quality mathematics and are looking for individuals who are eager to contribute to this ongoing effort.
Ph.D. (or its equivalent) in mathematics, statistics, mathematics (or statistics) education, data science, or a related discipline is strongly preferred. ABD with anticipated degree completion by August 2020 or shortly thereafter will be considered. College-level teaching experience is highly desired, with consideration given to all teaching experiences.
The successful candidate will provide evidence of interest in teaching mathematics in ways that ensure access to high-quality teaching and appropriate support for a diverse group of students. We also seek candidates who have experience and/or a record of professional engagement with groups and communities underrepresented in mathematics.
