Tenure-track Assistant Professor Position in Mathematics at Southwestern University

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Southwestern University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mathematics position beginning August 2020. Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Mathematics or a closely relatefield. ABD candidates will be considered but degree must be completed by August 24, 2020.

At Southwestern, teaching is the central criterion for faculty evaluation. The typical teaching load is 3-2 (totaling five courses per academic year). Faculty are also expected to maintain a research program that results in peer-reviewed professional achievement, actively participate in university service, participate in academic advising and retention initiatives, and exhibit a dedication to equity and inclusiveness. Successful applicants will demonstrate a commitment to pursuing excellence in teaching a broad range of undergraduate mathematics courses in a liberal arts environment, including introductory statistics, and a willingness to foster undergraduate research. All research areas will be considered, but particular consideration will be given to candidates whose research area complements those of the department. Ideal candidates will also share an interest in Southwestern’s interdisciplinary approach to education known as Paideia. Successful applicants will demonstrate a willingness to contribute to Southwestern’s commitment to inquiry-based learning in the sciences.
