Aspiring PUI Faculty Workshop at Bucknell University

The Aspiring PUI Faculty Workshop at Bucknell University is to be held October 25-28, 2022.

Bucknell University is becoming more intentional in its efforts to hire Postdocs, Visiting Assistant Professors, and Tenure Track Faculty from groups that have been traditionally underrepresented in their fields.  We recognize that many graduate students and postdocs have had limited exposure to a primarily undergraduate institution (PUI) such as ours, and wish to offer an opportunity for them to learn more about such a potential career path and develop a professional network.

Bucknell University is a selective university that includes a College of Arts & Sciences, a College of Engineering, and the Freeman College of Management.  Faculty conduct research in a wide variety of areas and are strongly committed to teaching; many faculty have received external funding for their research activities, and many have been recognized for their teaching excellence.

We are piloting the Aspiring PUI Faculty Workshop to offer professional development and networking opportunity for late-stage Ph. D.s and early postdocs who would like to learn about building a career in a PUI environment like Bucknell. During a three-day campus visit, participants will observe a class, lead a class, give a research presentation, participate in research group meetings, meet with students, learn more about the job search process, participate in social activities, and learn more about on-campus support resources.  The applicants should have research that naturally falls within one of the following departments or programs: Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology & Environmental Geosciences, Mathematics (including Statistics), and Physics & Astronomy. Travel and local costs for successful applicants will be covered by Bucknell.

Please encourage eligible graduate students and postdocs to apply here or at the Google Forms link
