The Statistics group is part of the Department of Computer Science and Statistics (CSS) at the University of Rhode Island (URI). CSS is a dynamic, welcoming, innovation-focused department, favorably positioned to take advantage of the synergies between computational and statistical sciences. Faculty members in Statistics are actively involved in cutting-edge research areas including biostatistics, Bayesian methods, network analysis, missing data, econometrics, and spatiotemporal modeling. Several of these areas provide opportunities for collaboration with scientists from other fields, contributing to characterize the department as a well-integrated center of multidisciplinary research.
We invite applications for a Multicultural Faculty Fellow with a research focus in any area of Statistical Science and a commitment to bringing multicultural perspectives to our programs, course offering, and the institution at large. One of the objectives of this position is to enhance the capacity of our faculty and students to advance issues of diversity within academic programs and research. The anticipated start date for the two-year appointment is August 2019. Subject to a positive review of teaching and scholarly activities, the Fellow will transition into a full-time, funded, tenure track faculty position. This transition can happen at the end of the first or of the second year depending on the progress of the fellow.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach one statistics course; conduct research with possible opportunities for students; give one internal research seminar every year; attend at least one conference every year and present; participate in faculty meetings and other departmental activities.
1. Ph.D. with a concentration in statistics, biostatistics or closely related fields at the time of appointment (August 2019).
2. Demonstrated ability to conduct academic research.
3. Demonstrated experience working with members of diverse and underrepresented groups.
4. Demonstrated ability to develop and instruct undergraduate and/or graduate courses.
5. Demonstrated proficiency in oral communication skills.
6. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.
1. Demonstrated successful record of publications and/or funded research.
2. Demonstrated teaching and/or mentoring experience at the undergraduate or graduate level.
