I was born and raised in Chile, where I got my Licenciatura in Mathematics and also took a few graduate courses before coming to Iowa for my PhD. There I learned about, and got involved in, minority-supporting activities the math department organized that later evolved into the Alliance.
My research area is Finite Geometries, which is a mix of abstract algebra, combinatorics and, of course, geometry. I have other interests (meaning I am not an expert) in Graph Theory, Knot Theory and algebraic invariants of combinatorial objects.
