The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (SoMSS) at Arizona State University invites
applications for a full‐time tenure‐eligible position in applied and computational mathematics at therank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Anticipated start date is August 16, 2023. The Applied and Computational Mathematics program consists approximately of 20 faculty members and has close ties with our statistics and theoretical math groups.

The essential duties of the position will be to conduct research on areas of applied mathematics, computational mathematics, optimization, and/or data science, publish in appropriate high‐quality journals, disseminate research at conferences and colloquia, provide quality teaching and mentoring in our undergraduate and graduate programs, and participate in appropriate professional service.

SoMSS currently has 57 full‐time tenured or tenure‐track faculty members and approximately 96 supported Ph.D. students, along with an additional 50 Ph.D. students and 44 Master’s students. The School offers bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. programs in applied mathematics, theoretical mathematics, mathematics education and statistics, and undergraduate and master’s programs in actuarial science. In addition, the school offers an interdisciplinary B.S. degree program in data science, and participates in a cross‐college Ph.D. program in Data Science. The School has excellent computing resources that include individual faculty workstations, several high‐performance servers and a small cluster, as well as access to the University’s central computing facilities and the High‐Performance Computing Initiative. The School has a strong interdisciplinary research profile that includes numerous opportunities for collaboration on the campus with schools in, for example, Electrical, Computer and
Energy Engineering, Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy, Biological and Health
Systems Engineering, Earth and Space Exploration, Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning, and with interdisciplinary centers and institutes, such as the Institute for Social Science Research, the College of Health Solutions, the Global Institute of Sustainability, as well as off‐campus with the thriving medical and technical industries in the Phoenix region. The escalating interest in data science research throughout ASU will offer further opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration.
