Dr. Yi Li: New Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at California State University, Northridge

The National Alliance for Doctoral Studies in the Mathematical Sciences would like to congratulate Dr. Yi Li on his appointment as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at California State University, Northridge. Dr. Li will begin his appointment July 20, 2015.

Dr. Li served as Dean of the College of Science and Mathematics at Wright State University since 2011; he previously served as Professor and DEO of the Department of Mathematics at the University of Iowa where he played a leading role in the department’s minority graduate student initiatve. Dr. Li brings a wealth of leadership and research to CSUN with a particular interest and successful record of increasing diversity within STEM programs.

Alliance Director Phil Kutzko noted that the Alliance affiliated Pacific Regional Alliance has its headquarters at CSUN and that he is looking forward to working with Dr. Li in his new capacity:

“I was absolutely delighted to hear that my friend and colleague, Yi Li, had been named Provost at Cal State Northridge.  Yi served as Director of Graduate Studies and then as DEO of our math department at the University of Iowa during a critical time in the development of our department’s minority graduate student initiative.  His strong leadership and his deep commitment to building a diverse and nurturing department was a key factor in the success of this initiative.  How appropriate, then, that he will now serve as Provost at an institution whose commitment to academic rigor and excellence is matched only by its commitment to insure that every student in its region has the opportunity for a first-rate college education, regardless of his or her background or ethnicity.   Congratulations, Yi, from the Alliance community – we look forward to working with you in your new role.”
