The National Alliance for Doctoral Studies in the Mathematical Sciences
Welcome to our National Alliance webpage! We are an alliance of over 180 faculty at undergraduate institutions together with faculty at 20 graduate program groups in the mathematical sciences whose goal is to ensure that any student from a background that is underrepresented in the math sciences and who wishes to pursue a doctoral degree in these fields is given the tools, nurturing, and encouragement needed to succeed.
The Alliance was founded in 2002 and since that time more than 450 undergraduate math sciences majors have benefited from our programs. Many of these students are in graduate school and several are now undergraduate Alliance faculty and inviting their own students to join.
The Alliance brings together three
Alliance Anchor Programs with proven track records in training underrepresented students in the mathematical sciences. As a result of this expansion we have expanded our scope to include a
graduate program and a
postdoctoral program. We have also begun an initiative in the
statistical sciences under the leadership of Dr. Kathryn Chaloner. Please
